###Debian Server Installation###

I. What is Debian Server?

Debian is a free operating system (OS) or Linux for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run.

Debian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 29000 packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine.

II. Hardware Requirement

Install Type	RAM (minimal)	RAM (recommended)	Hard Drive
No desktop	64 megabytes	256 megabytes	1 gigabyte
With Desktop	128 megabytes	512 megabytes	5 gigabytes

III. Installation Process

Noted: Please go through this website for downloading Image ISO the latest version of Debian server: http://www.debian.org/CD/

•  Step 1: This my own machine that I am going to install and please insert the disk Image to CD ROM and then start power on the machine server

• Step 2: Please choose the option Install and hit the Enter Key for installing machine:

• Step 3: Please select the language that you know. This option  I choose English

• Step 4: Please choose the location that you are in. This option I choose other to find my location in Asian

Now I found my location as below:

• Step 5: This option I choose in Cambodia for location

• Step 6: This option I choose United States for locales but you can choose whatever you want.

•  Step 7: This option choose American English

• Step 8: Fill the hostname on your server machine
  • Step 9: Configure your domain name that you have

  

  • Step 10: Put your password that you prefer for Root user:

  

  • Step 11: Re-enter the password that you just insert:

  

  • Step 12: Create your own user name for this server

  

  • Step 13: Assign the password for your own server

  

  • Step 14:Re-enter the password for your own user

  

  • Step 15: This option, I choose Guided Use Entire disk but you can Manual configure on your hard drive by select Manual

  

  • Step 16: This option, it just tells you that this drive will be erased all your old data that you have before à hit enter for installation

  

  • Step 17: You can choose first option for new user installation

  

  • Step 18: Choose on Finish for creating partition

  

  • Step 19: Choose Yes for write on disk drive

  

  • Step 20: This is the process of formatting the disk drive. Please wait a while

  

  • Step 21:Choose No do not scan CD

  

  • Step 22: Choose No

  

  • Step 23: This process, please wait a while

  

  • Step 24: Choose No do not participate in the package usage survey:

  

  • Step 25: This option, we can choose which services that you prefer. This server  I installed as Text mode and I like to install SSH server for remote. I don’t like Graphic Desktop on Server.

  

  • Step 26: This process, we need to wait

  

  • Step 27: Choose Yes for installing the GRUB boot loader on our hard disk

  

  • Step 28: Click on Continue for finish the installation

  

  • Step 29: Successfully for installing Debian 6.0 and you can login as root and your password that been assigned.
